My Mission

I strive to curate and distill the very best business thinking and practices so you can get to work creating your career and world.

The Forest Through the Trees

I write, create and compile this information with my students, both undergrads and grad students, the companies I consult, and the entrepreneurs I mentor, in mind. An MBA curriculum breaks the topics into discreet classes that then go into great and exhaustive detail in that particular discipline. This approach is certainly valuable but I see a lack of an overview that provides a general sense of how all these discreet disciplines fit together and how we can orchestrate and bring them to bear on meeting goals and getting things done.

Another problem with going into such detail all at once continuously in a course is that all the information is given the same weight. Where fundamentals and scenarios and situations that you will encounter most of the time should be emphasized, you end up getting lots of contingent information about things you will encounter rarely if ever. MBA ASAP takes the approach of using the Pareto Principle that 20% of the information in a regular class represents 80% of the information you need. We focus on the 20% so you can get going and fill in the rare information when needed. Otherwise you are left with this big, flat, not-prioritized amount of information and the topic seems overwhelming and the knowledge is not functional so it ends up being challenging turning it into useable skills.

"Many people need business skills to pursue their goals and dreams. My goal is to create a space where people who don’t choose to currently pursue an MBA, whether for cost, time, geography or luck of the admission process, can pick up the business skills that will advance their careers and open opportunities. These materials are also great for refreshing business knowledge or complementary to other curriculum you pursue.

I also use these ideas to deliver concise training for organizations that want to develop their employees and managers ability to be more effective

When studying for an MBA one takes approximately 16 courses: 4 semesters of 4 classes each. These classes represent all the various business disciplines and go into deep detail.

Alternative

There is a school of thinking embraced by a generation of entrepreneurs that proposes it could be much more effective to take the money you would spend on a MBA program and use it to actually start a business and learn while you earn. These materials are a great supplement to that kind of action oriented approach.

There are a ton of free materials available and more always on the way. And there are books available in Kindle and paperback with costs ranging from a cup of coffee to a fast food meal that will give you the skills to manage and grow your enterprise and dreams.

Learning that fits into your schedule. Access the books and materials from your computer or mobile device - anytime, anywhere. Or keep one of the paperback books and a highlighter handy at home, on your daily commute, or when you travel.
